Hair loss
Reason for Hair Loss
Hair loss is common among people around the age of 40 and over and could be permanent or temporary depending on
the underlying reason. There are several possible
causes of hair loss. If it has developed
genetically the result may be permanent, but then it might just be a medical condition. Hair loss can happen after chemotherapy
and some other medications, and sometimes emotional problems like stress can cause hair loss. But in these situations hair loss is not usually
more than a temporary condition.
The main reason for permanent hair loss is usually genetic. You could be pre-disposed to baldness if it runs in your
family. Look around at your older family members - men and women. If there is a predominance of baldness or thinning hair, that could explain
your own loss. You could always consult a doctor specialising in hair for advice on countering the problem.
Temporary hair loss can come about through experiencing stress and becoming emotionally disturbed. The hair can lose
luster, become dull, and after three months or so can start to fall out. But this is only temporary and in time, it will grow back.
Another cause of temporary hair loss is childbirth. It is not uncommon for women to lose some hair, several months after
giving birth, and is nothing to worry about. Women can experience abnormal hair growth during pregnancy, and shedding some of the excess hair
after birth should cause no alarm.
